QUMSA Message on Islamophobia Reporting

After the launch of the "QUMSA Campaign against Islamophobia" website, we have received many emails reporting different islamophobia – related acts which are not officially registered in any of the campus or local Kingston authorities. QUMSA here calls all its members, the Muslim community members in Kingston, and the broader Kingston community, to report any islamophobia-related acts/crimes that they have experienced or witnessed through the following guidelines:

1. Report all types of incidents! Even if you believe it is "small". Report all types of hatred, harassment, discrimination and abuse whether on campus or in Kingston.

2. Act immediately! Each incident must be dealt with when it happens, not when convenient.

3. Contact the authorities! Call the campus security at 613-533-6111, or the local Kingston Police at 613-549-4660.

4. Report in Details. Narrate to the officers exactly what was said/done by the offender. If applicable, save evidence and take photographs.

5. Get Community Support! Report to QUMSA, by filling the below form, visiting our office at JDUC room 232, or speaking to one of our executive members.

QUMSA puts all its resources for supporting anyone undergoing such hateful crimes. QUMSA has many friends within the university and in Kingston, and will take all possible measures to ensure that Muslim students receive safe and healthy campus life.
